Somewhere in the wilderness of Northern Finland a male bear and female wolf strikes up an unlikely friendship, each evening after a hard-day’s hunting this pair could be seen sharing dinner together while enjoying the sunset. Between the hours of 8pm and 4am they would stay in each other’s company.(photo: Lassi Rautiainen)
Allow me to introduce you to the Red-eyed Crocodile Skink.
Since these guys were recently discovered (mid to late nineties), there isn’t a whole lot that is known about them, but I’ll share a few facts with you here.
- These guys can grow up to ten inches in length, though the average is more like seven.
- They’re pretty shy and choose to play dead as their defense mechanism.
- Other than geckos, these guys are one of the only lizards that vocalize. Their sound is described as a barking noise when they’re in distress
- Average lifespan is listed at around 6 years
that is not a skink, that is a small dragon.
Amazonian Leaf-footed Bug (Dicator bilenatus)
…A species of leaf-footed bug that occurs throughout South America, parts of Central America, and some Caribbean Islands. Like all coreids D. bilenatus is a herbivore and likely feeds on a wide variety of plant species. When threatened it probably is able to release a unpleasant odor to deter potential predators, like other coreids.
